The 1998 Coppa Italia final was one for the ages, as Lazio overcame AC Milan. The Milanese side claimed a narrow 1-0 win in the first leg at the San Siro, thanks to George Weah's late winner, before Lazio ran out 3-1 winners at the Stadio Olimpico. Alessandro Nesta netted the decisive goal to hand Sven-Göran Eriksson his first major trophy as Lazio manager.
Five years later AC Milan were involved in another classic Coppa Italia final, this time against AS Roma. The Rossoneri came from behind to pick up a 4-1 victory at the Stadio Olimpico before the teams played out a 2-2 draw in the return leg at the San Siro, for Milan to earn a 6-3 aggregate win.
The Coppa Italia final of 2007 will be more fondly remembered by supporters of Roma, as the Giallorossi stormed to a resounding 6-2 triumph over Inter Milan. Francesco Totti opened the scoring inside the opening minute and Daniele De Rossi doubled Roma's lead shortly after. Inter won 2-1 in the second leg though it wasn't enough to stop Roma from celebrating an eighth Coppa Italia title.
More recently, in 2022, bitter rivals Inter and Juventus contested the Coppa Italia final at the Stadio Olimpico. The match ended level, 2-2, before Ivan Perišić scored twice in extra-time for Inter to hoist this trophy for the eighth time.
Top Achievers in the Coppa Italia Final
No club has been more successful in the Coppa Italia than Juventus. The Bianconeri captured this title for the 15th time in 2024, as they appeared in a record-extending 22nd Coppa Italia final.
Roma and Inter Milan have won the Coppa Italia nine times apiece, while Lazio are seven-time winners. Fiorentina and Napoli each have six successes in this tournament.
Best Players in the Coppa Italia Final
Roberto Mancini became the first player to achieve six winner's medals in the Coppa Italia, doing so in the 1999/00 season. Dejan Stankovic and Gianluigi Buffon joined this exclusive club in 2011 and 2021, respectively.
In addition, no player has accumulated more appearances in this competition than Mancini, who made a total 120 appearances for three different clubs (Bologna, Sampdoria and Lazio).
