AJ Auxerre History

The club was founded in 1905, though it wasn't until the 1980/81 season that Auxerre competed in the French premier division for the first time.

AJ Auxerre won their first major trophy in 1994, thanks to a 3-0 victory over Montpellier in the Coupe de France Final. Auxerre have won the Coupe de France no fewer than four times overall, including twice in three years from 2003-05.

Auxerre were crowned champions of France in 1995/96, edging Paris Saint-Germain & Monaco by 4 points, and subsequently participated in the UEFA Champions League. The Burgundy-based outfit advanced to the knockouts but lost to eventual champions Borussia Dortmund in the quarter-finals.

Auxerre remained a top-half team for much of the 2000s before succumbing to relegation in 2012.

AJ Auxerre Players
