AS Roma History

This legendary club was formed as a merger between three teams based in the Italian capital, namely Fortitudo-ProRoma, Alba-Audace, and Football Club di Roma.

AS Roma initially played at the Alba-Audace stadium for one season, before relocating temporarily to a couple of local venues. In 1953 the club adopted Stadio Olimpico as its home ground, and it has served as such for more than 70 years.

The Giallorossi made their first big mark on the Italian football scene in 1942, when they won a maiden Scudetto. Although numerous seasons have been imprinted in supporters' memory, 2000/01 was the last time Roma won the Scudetto.

The unique football club functioned under the umbrella of a publicly traded corporation for decades, regularly changing official club partners. But frequent changes in ownership reflected poorly on the team’s management. This is why fans were happy in 2020 when American billionaire Dan Friedkin bought the majority stake in the club. It cost Franklin $700m to acquire 86% of the team.

SeatPick offers the option to watch the Giallorossi play live with affordable Roma tickets, both for home matches and away.

AS Roma Today

Roma is one of the most successful Italian teams, with no fewer than three Serie A titles and nine Coppa Italia trophies decorating the halls of the club facilities. Success in Europe hasn't been plentiful, although the club regularly participates in tournaments such as the UEFA Champions League and Europa League.

The Giallorossi hoisted the Conference League in 2022, as José Mourinho steered the team to a maiden European title. Prior to that, the Roman side ended runners-up to Liverpool in the 1983/84 European Cup final. Roma also had to settle for second place in the 1990/91 UEFA Cup, losing 2-1 to Inter Milan in the final.

Roma were notably a forced to be reckoned with when Francesco Totti was captaining the team and leading the line, which he did for the best part of 20 years.

Find affordable Roma tickets easily online and watch the football matches at the Olympic stadium.

AS Roma Rivalries

Hometown rivalry is the most intense, and Roma has an arch enemy in SS Lazio. Both teams share the Stadio Olimpico, with alternating home matches at the famous ground, and local supporters display religious veneration for their team’s colours.

Fans across Italy mark the Derby Della Capitale on their calendars as soon as the fixtures are released, and the streets of Italy’s capital turn into a (non-violent) 'battleground' for the fiercest intra-city derby. SeatPick has a wide selection of Roma vs Lazio tickets too, if you'd like to see these fierce rivals fight it out.

AS Roma Best Footballers

The reputation of the team and the allure of the city have attracted many popular footballers. Perhaps there is no hero more revered than Francesco Totti, nicknamed Er Bimbo de Oro (The Golden Boy). The striker spent his entire club career at his boyhood team, making a grand total 783 appearances across a 24-year spell with the senior team. Totti also netted 307 goals in Roma colours, making him the top scorer in the club's history.

Other high-profile individuals who have donned the badge of the Giallorossi down the years include:

  • Bruno Conti

  • Carlo Ancelotti

  • Vincent Candela

  • Vincenzo Montella

  • Gabriel Batistuta

  • Daniele De Rossi

Best Ways to Travel to Stadio Olimpico

Once you have booked Roma matchday tickets, there are several options to arrive at the venue. The narrow streets of Rome are not the best option for travel by automobile. It's best for club supporters to take advantage of the city's public transportation system, offering multiple means of fast and comfortable transport to the stadium for any part of the ancient city.

By Metro

The most convenient and fastest way to reach the stadium is by the metro system. Supports can hitch a ride on line A and disembark at Flamino station for a short walk to the stadium. The subway network is well connected, and hopping from one train to another makes the connection with Line A easy.

By Bus

The bus lines are a reliable option to arrive at the majestic stadium, as long as you don’t mind the lack of elbow room on match day. Look out for buses numbered 168, 226, 301, 32, and 628 that gravitate around the stadium. With the nearest bus stop De Bois being only two minutes' walk away, while the most distant of the six available stations, Stadio Della Farnesina is only eight minutes away.

By Tram
