George Ezra Biography

George Ezra Bennett was born in Hertfordshire in June 1993 and moved to Bristol to study songwriting and rose to prominence after appearing at the BBC Introducing Stage at Glastonbury Festival in 2013, and it was already obvious that he had a great stage presence and later that year he released his first major label single with Did You Hear the Rain being a moderate success.

The follow up single, Budapest, proved a huge worldwide smash, reaching number three on the UK charts and into the US Billboard singles chart, going four times Platinum in the United States. In June 2014, George Ezra released his debut album, Wanted on Voyage, which went to number one in the UK and sold over a million copies.

Subsequent singles from the album also charted well, including Blame It on Me, Listen to the Man and Barcelona.

In 2018, George Ezra completed his second studio album release, and Staying at Tamara's was another number one hit in the UK and also secured a Brit Award nomination for British Album of the Year. He scored his first UK number-one single with Shotgun and Paradise; Hold My Girl and Pretty Shining People also performed well.

2022 saw the release of George Ezra's third studio album, Gold Rush Kid, which once again hit the top of the UK charts, proving that the young talent has staying power and is a prolific songwriter. Green Green Grass and Anyone for You (Tiger Lilly) both did well on the singles chart across Europe.

George Ezra is now certainly one of the favourite artists to come out of the UK, and all upcoming events sell out in reflection of that popularity. His music engenders a strong reaction from many, and his consistent success on the UK albums chart is mirrored by the achievements, awards, and accolades he has already amassed.

He won a YouTube Music Award in 2015, a Brit Award in 2019, and was awarded Live Act of the Year at the GQ Men of the Year Awards. He cites the likes of Bob Dylan and Woody Guthrie as big influences on his songs, and as a live act, George Ezra and his band are not the type you would want to miss out on.
