About Georgia Tickets 2023/24

As one of the smallest nations in European football, with a population of less than 4 million, it is no surprise that Georgia isn't deemed a household name on the international footballing scene. However, this doesn't mean that tickets for Georgia national football team events aren't a sought-after commodity amongst fans.

History of the Georgia National Football Team

The Georgian Football Federation was initially founded in 1936, as part of the Soviet Union Football Federation, and it became an independent entity in 1990, shortly before after the country gained independence from the Soviet Union.

The Georgia national football team played its first official international fixture in 1992, ending in a 1-0 defeat to Lithuania. In 1998, Georgia achieved its highest FIFA world ranking of 42nd, though the eastern European nation has seldom featured in the top 50 since then.

Georgia has never participated at the FIFA World Cup nor the UEFA European Championship, as of the end of 2023. They reached the Euro 2020 play-off finals but lost to North Macedonia.

Georgia returned to the play-off finals for the UEFA Euro 2024 finals, having defeated Luxembourg in the semi-finals. Georgia then beat Greece, on penalties, to book their place at the showpiece event hosted by Germany.

Best Georgia Football Players

Levan Kobiashvili made his international debut in 1996 and went on to become the first Georgia player to earn 100 caps. He amassed more than 350 appearances in the German Bundesliga, playing for the likes of SC Freiburg, FC Schalke and Hertha Berlin. In 2015, Kobiashvili was elected president of the Georgian Football Federation.

Guram Kashia is the most-capped Georgia international of all time. He made an 110th national team appearance during his nation's Euro 2024 qualifying campaign, captaining the side throughout the qualifiers. Jaba Kankava also appeared 100 times for Georgia, captaining the team on more than 60 occasions.

Shota Arveladze scored a record 26 goals in 61 appearances for his national team. The ex-striker made 125 appearances for Eredivisie outfit AFC Ajax and he also represented Scottish club Rangers.

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia is the current star of the Georgia national team. The winger made his international debut in 2019, aged 18, and has quickly become the focal point for his country. He scored his 15th international goal in November 2023, during a Euro 2024 qualifier against Spain, and continues to chase down the record 26 goals of Arveladze. Kvaratskhelia signed for Napoli in 2022 and won the Serie A title in his first season with the Italian team. He was voted the Most Valuable Player and named in the Serie A Team of the Season for 2022/23.
