Tate McRae was born in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, in 2003 and studied to become a ballet dancer and was awarded a scholarship at the Berlin State Ballet in 2015. She first rose to prominence when she performed at Justin Bieber's Calgary concert as part of his Purpose World Tour in 2016.

She appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show the same year and entered the thirteenth season of So You Think You Can Dance, and finished third. Tate McRae has made great use of her YouTube channel to help maximize her exposure, and in 2020, her single You Broke Me First broke into the top ten in her native Canada and went to number three on the UK charts and number 17 on the US Billboard charts.

Her debut studio album, I Used to Think I Could Fly, charted at number 13 on the US Album charts and was a top ten hit in Canada, Belgium, Australia, New Zealand, and the UK in 2022.

She worked with famed Dutch DJ Tiesto on 10:35, a massive global hit, and her second studio album, Think Later, earned Tate McRae her most successful US release, reaching number four on the Billboard charts.

The lead single from the album, Greedy, went to number one in Canada and number three in both the UK and the US. The sky is very much the limit for Tate McRae, and that's reflected in the success of her live tours.
