PSV Eindhoven History

The club was originally founded in 1913 as a sports club for employees of the Philips electronics company.

In the post-war era, PSV started to dominate Dutch football, winning numerous Eredivisie titles. However, it was the 1987/88 season that went down in football folklore. Under the management of Guus Hiddink, the club secured its greatest triumph, winning the European Cup (now known as the UEFA Champions League) as part of their treble-winning season.

In recent years, PSV Eindhoven have challenged Ajax and Feyenoord for the title. They were crowned champions in back-to-back seasons in 2014/15 and 2015/16. PSV added their 24th league title in the 2017/18 season.

They did have to wait another six seasons for an Eredivisie title, which came in 2023/2024. That was a record-breaking campaiign for PSV as they claimed 91 points. Luuk de Jong was one of the key men, notching 29 goals as they won the title by seven points from Feyenoord.

Best Way to Reach the Philips Stadion

There are different options for arriving to the stadium. It's located on the edge of Eindhoven's city centre and fans can choose to go by car or by public transportation.

By Car:

Drive to Eindhoven. Most car parks and hotels in the city centre are within walking distance to the stadium.

By Public Transportation:

For fans taking a train, the stadium is only a 10-minute walk from Eindhoven Centraal railway station. To avoid 10 minutes of walking, take either the 401, 402 or 403 bus and alight at the Philips Stadion bus stop, just outside the stadium. The 401 bus connects the stadium to the airport.
