These London rivals first shared a pitch during the 1909/10 season of the Football League. They met twice in the First Division, with either side winning its home fixture, on either side of a clash in the Second Round of the FA Cup which Tottenham Hotspur won by a single goal to zero.

To date, Chelsea and Spurs have faced one another on more than 175 occasions, with the vast majority of these coming in the English top flight.

He scored 266 goals which remained a club record until Harry Kane surpassed this tally in January 2023. Greaves signed for Spurs in 1961, from AC Milan, after rising through the Chelsea Academy.

• Terry Venables moved directly from Chelsea to Spurs in 1966, having joined the Blues as a teenager. Venables made upwards of 200 appearances for Chelsea as a player, but later took up the position as Tottenham manager for four years following a spell at the helm of FC Barcelona.

• Tottenham paid in the region of £2m to sign Uruguay attacking midfielder Gus Poyet from Chelsea in 2001.

• William Gallas played 225 times for Chelsea before switching to Arsenal in 2006. Four years later, the France defender had crossed the North London divide having been signed by Spurs.

• There are also several managers – namely Andre Vilas-Boas, José Mourinho, Antonio Conte, and Mauricio Pochettino – who have been in charge of both Chelsea and Spurs.
