Philadelphia 76ers Tickets

As of 2025, the 76ers have three NBA Championship titles to their name, these coming with significant gaps between them, but that should not diminish the rich history the team has in the NBA.

Between 1949 and 1963, the team competed as the Syracuse Nationals, and they changed their name when they relocated to Philadelphia, this move coming following their playoff overtime defeat to the Cincinnati Royals.

Their first NBA Finals win came prior to that in 1954-55 when they defeated the Fort Wayne Pistons in seven games.

Relocation

In their fourth season as the Philadelphia 76ers, they tasted another NBA Finals win, this time coming against the San Francisco Warriors, with a certain player by the name of Wilt Chamberlain securing the second of three successive NBA MVP awards during the successful 1966-67 season.

From the mid-70s to the mid-80s, the 76ers were a consistent force, with Julius Erving playing a key role in the team's rise to dominance.

The 76ers lost three NBA Finals between 1977 and 1982, two of which came at the hands of the Los Angeles Lakers and a third against the Portland Trail Blazers.

Third NBA Championship

Successful head coach Billy Cunningham did eventually help the Eastern Conference team to win their third, and to date final, NBA Finals win when they thumped the Lakers in four games in 1982-83, this coming after a hugely successful 65-17 regular season performance with Moses Malone securing the NBA Finals MVP award in the process.

In the 80s and early 90s, things were less successful though Charles Barkley did his best to reverse the downward trend.

Back to the Finals

In 2000-01 with Larry Brown at the helm, the Philadelphia 76ers made it to the NBA Finals again, losing to the Los Angeles Lakers again, this coming after Allen Iverson had won his first NBA MVP award.

Consolidation

Former head coach Doc Rivers had helped to consolidate matters in recent seasons with Cameroonian star Joel Embiid, big-name acquistion James Harden (who was part of the trade that saw Ben Simmons move in the opposite direction to the Brooklyn Nets), playing a part in something of a resurgence which saw them secure three successive conference semifinals in a row between 2021 and 2023.

The Philadelphia 76ers play in the Atlantic Division of the Eastern Conference, where they face rival Boston Celtics, the New York Knicks, the Brooklyn Nets, and the Toronto Raptors.
