It took a year of touring before they were spotted by Alan McGee of Creation Records, who signed the band and their debut album, Definitely Maybe, which went on to sell over two million copies in the UK alone and led to the group starting to crack the US market.
In 1995, the follow-up album, What's the Story (Morning Glory), was an even bigger success, once again topping the UK charts and also rising to number four in the United States, where the album sold over four million copies. The record has sold over 22 million copies worldwide and spawned a spate of hit singles, including Wonderwall and Don't Look Back In Anger.
Their third studio album, Be Here Now, was also a massive success, and indeed, each of their seven albums all went to number one in the UK, and the band has sold in excess of 75 million records globally before they split in 2009.
Singer and frontman Liam Gallagher went on to form Beady Eye before performing solo, while his brother Noel started the High Flying Birds, and both have maintained successful careers, which in part has delayed concerted efforts to get Oasis back together, though the possibility of such an event seems to be more likely than ever in 2024 though that would depent on either brother looking to accept the other back into their lives and musical spheres.
