Tim McGraw Biography

Tim McGraw was born in Delhi, Louisiana, in May 1967 and appeared to be leaning towards pursuing a career in sports before he learned guitar at college and moved to Nashville to aid his chances of being spotted.

He signed to Curb Records in 1990 and released his self-titled debut album in 1993, and though it was not a commercial success, it certainly aided his overall progression. Just a year later, his second album, Not a Moment Too Soon, went to the top of the US Billboard charts and sold over six million copies in the US alone.

That release included hit singles Indian Outlaw and Don't Take the Girl. In 1995, All I Want was another big hit album, and his fifth studio album release, A Place In the Sun, released in 1999, took him back to the top of the US charts and sold over a million copies.

That spawned a succession of successful singles, including Please Remember Me, Something Like That, My Best Friend and My Next Thirty Years. The 2000s proved every bit as successful as the 1990s and saw Tim McGraw stretch out from his wheelhouse, including with his collaboration with Nelly on their hit single Over and Over.

Three more number-one US albums followed with Live Like You Were Dying (2004) and Let It Go (2007), both hitting that benchmark. His 2017 album, The Rest of Our Life, with Faith Hill, was a critical success, and his consistent output has continued unabated.

In 2020, he displayed his love for his home state of Louisiana by playing a free show ahead of the College Football Playoffs, prior to his favourite college team, LSU, beating Clemson.

2023 saw Tim McGraw release his sixteenth studio album, Standing Room Only, being supported by a hugely successful Standing Room Only Tour.

The level of success Tim McGraw has achieved is fairly astonishing. Ten of his 16 studio albums have reached the top of the Country Albums chart, and he has racked up 25 number-one singles on the Country charts.
