Usher Biography

Usher was born in Dallas, Texas, in 1978 and, aged ten, joined the NuBeginnings, a group in Atlanta, Georgia, where his family moved to early in his life.

He performed on the famous Star Search TV talent show and that secured a key audition that helped him to get signed up. Usher released his debut solo album in 1994 to moderate success, but it would be his second studio album, My Way, that really set him up for the big time.

Usher has regularly cited Michael Jackson as a huge influence on his career, and as an entertainer, Usher Raymond IV has certainly looked to push his star power into the same orbit as his glittering hero.

My Way

My Way came out in 1997 and went on to sell a massive seven million copies in the United States and did well across the world.

The album included hit singles You Make Me Wanna.. and Nice and Slow.

Usher's third album, 8701, took things up a notch. It earned Usher two Grammy Awards and saw U Remind Me and U Got It Bad both go to number one on the Billboard Singles Chart.

Yeah!

In 2002 along with Lil Jon and Ludacris, the song Yeah! was a monster hit and was followed up by Burn, Confessions Part II, and My Boo, with Alicia Keys, meaning that Usher had secured four successive number-one singles.

Love In This Club

In 2008, he hit the top of the charts again, this time with Young Jeezy on Love In This Club, which appeared on his Here I Stand album.

Raymond v. Raymond saw Usher team up with a host of top artists including will.i.am and Nicki Minaj.

Lengthy Break

Hard II Love was released in 2016 and became Usher's eighth studio album, and 2024 will reportedly see him release his next, with Coming Home set to be accompanied by an all-encompassing tour.

Additional Ventures

As well as being a celebrated artist selling tens of millions of records, Usher has found success with his record label Raymound-Braun Music Group (RBMG), which was the first label to snap up a Canadian singer by the name of Justin Bieber.
