About Toronto Raptors Tickets 2023/24

As part of the NBA's move to expand, they brought in two franchises from Canada, with the Toronto Raptors and the Vancouver Grizzlies becoming expansion teams in the league from 1995-96.

Their first four seasons ended in disappointing yet not unexpected, losing records but in 1999-00, with youngster Vince Carter starting to make an impact, they forced their way through to their first playoff run, losing in the first round to the New York Knicks.

Under new head coach Lenny Wilkens they repeated the feat in 2000-01, this time losing to the Philadelphia 76ers in the Conference Semifinals and the following year to the Detroit Pistons in the first round. A level of consistency had been established.

Last Canadians Standing

By this time, they had become the only Canadian team in the league as the Vancouver Grizzlies had relocated to Memphis.

In 2006-07 the Raptors finished top of the Atlantic Division for the first time, thanks in part to the form of Chris Bosh, but the team once again failed to make an impact in the playoffs, losing to the New Jersey Nets in the first round.

Led by Dwane Casey, the team showed more improvement; in 2015-16, they got to the Conference Finals before losing to the Cleveland Cavaliers and were eliminated by the same team in each of the next two seasons.

Warriors Overcome for first NBA Title

Then in 2018-19, the team secured its maiden NBA Finals debut and, subsequently, their first NBA Championship as they roared past the Golden State Warriors in six games, with star players Kawhi Leonard, Kyle Lowry, and Pascal Siakam being vital to that huge success in what was Nick Nurse's first season at the helm.

Historic

The NBA title success was something of a historic event as it was the first time a non-American team had won a major championship in any of the four major leagues (NBA, NHL, NFL, and MLB) since 1993, when the Toronto Blue Jays won the World Series.

In 2019-20 they once again impressed in the regular season, despite the departure of Leonard to the Los Angeles Clippers, and are a force to be reckoned with in the Eastern Conference.

Over the course of their relatively young history in the NBA, you could argue that the Toronto Raptors have overachieved over the years. They've secured one NBA Championship, one Conference title, and seven Divisional titles.

Atlantic Division Rivals

The Toronto Raptors play in the Atlantic Division of the Eastern Conference, where they join a raft of top-quality opponents, including the Boston Celtics, the Philadelphia 76ers, the New York Knicks, and the Brooklyn Nets.
