As of 2025, they have secured a record total of 29 outright successes in the competition, with another 10 wins secured via shared wins.

England Rugby Football Union, as the English rugby team is formally known, have enjoyed some spells of dominance in the history of the Six Nations, and especially during the latter period of the Five Nations tournament.

Back-to-Back Titles

When England won the 1991 Five Nations Championship, this being prior to Italy's involvement in the competition, it started a strong run of form for the national team.

Head coach Geoff Cooke helped secure back-to-back titles and Grand Slams, and his replacement Jack Rowell did likewise in 1995 and 1996.

Instant Success in New Format

Sir Clive Woodward led England to a further three titles in the Six Nations format, but they then had to wait another eight years to clinch another Championship.

In 2016 and 2017, under Aussie Eddie Jones, they won back-to-back Six Nations crowns with fly-half Owen Farrell proving a key member of his set-up. 2020 saw England pip France to the title after an enthralling 33-30 win against Wales in their final game.

Playing Catch-Up

Since then, England rugby has fallen some way off the pace and in 2023 they finished fourth having secured just two wins from their five games .

In 2024, England did slightly better, finishing third. Italy and Wales were beaten, the latter in a tight match. Scotland and France beat England. The highlight for England in 2024 was undoubtedly a 23-22 win over Ireland at Twickenham, to prevent the Irish Grand Slam.

2025 proved a frustrating tournament for England, with Steve Borthwick's side narrowly missing out on a first Six Nations title since 2020 by the narrowest of margins, with France pipping them by just one point.

The Red Roses still remain among the teams to beat in the upcoming Six Nations Championship.

Twickenham Stadium Guide

England rugby union fixtures take place at Twickenham Stadium, one of the premier venues in the game and a location regularly used for other events, including top concerts.

In August 2024, it was announced that Twickenham was changing its name due to a new sponsorship deal. It is now known as Allianz Stadium.
