Eagles Biography

The Eagles began in earnest after Linda Ronstadt brought in Glenn Frey and Don Henley to be in her band in 1971, and during the tour, the two opted to form a band together.

Randy Meisner joined soon after, with Bernie Leadon completing the original lineup for the band.

Debut Album

The band's self-titled debut album performed well and spawned iconic singles Take It Easy and Peaceful Easy Feeling.

Desperado

In 1973 the Eagles released their second album, Desperado, and the band started to mature into one of the biggest bands of the era; their fourth studio album, One of These Nights, became the band's first number-one album on the Billboard charts and went on to sell four million copies in the United States alone.

Lyin' Eyes

The album included the successful singles Lyin' Eyes, One of These Nights, and Take It to the Limit.

Don Felder joined the band in 1974.

Hotel California

It was their fifth album that lifted the band into a whole new stratosphere, with Hotel California gaining acclaim from critics and becoming a massive success.

The 1976 album has gone on to sell 32 million copies, making it one of the best-selling albums of all time, and the record also included the single of the same name, which was a worldwide smash hit and is still an Eagles live concert classic.

New Lineup

The lineup for the album included new member, Joe Walsh, who added to great effect, and it was at this point that the Eagles became one of the most favourite artists in world music at the time.

The album also included hits Life in the Fast Lane and New Kid in Town.

Three years later, the band released what was their last album before their split, with The Long Run once again topping the US Billboard charts and giving the Eagles their fifth US number-one single, Heartache Tonight.

Break Up

The band then split up as animosity between key members Don Felder and Glen Frey reached boiling point at a live event where both members threatened to beat the other up.

Solo Careers

Members of the band looked to launch solo careers following the break-up, with Don Henley managing to achieve success in the 1980s, including his big success Boys of Summer, while Glen Frey worked extensively on film soundtracks.

Comeback

The band made a comeback and, in 2007, released their seventh studio album, 28 years since their last, with Long Road to Eden proving a big financial success.

After Glen Frey passed away in 2016, his son, Deacon Frey, and country singer Vince Gill took over on lead vocals on their live tour dates.

Accolades And Awards

The Eagles have gone on to sell over 200 million records and have won a host of awards, and were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998.
