Venezia FC History

Based in the stunning city of Venice, Venezia Foot Ball Club was founded in 1907. Only in 1939 did the club achieve promotion to Serie A for the first time, 10 years after the Italian top flight had been reformatted.

Venezia were crowned winners of the Coppa Italia in 1941 and the following season I Leoni alati (The Winged Lions) claimed 3rd place in Serie A, which remains the club's highest finish in the Italian top flight.

Over the years Venezia have struggled to assert themselves as a mainstay in Serie A. In the second half of the 20th century, the club played in Serie A for just four seasons three in the 1960s and one in 1998/99.

Venezia then spent a single campaign (2001/02) in the top flight, preceding a 19-year spell away from Serie A before they finally returned in 2021.

After securing promotion to Serie A for the 2024/25 season, former Italy midfielder Eusebio Di Francesco was appointed head coach, replacing Paolo Vanoli.

Venezia Stadium

Stadio Pier Luigi Penzo is Italy's second-oldest stadium still in operation, having opened back in 1913. The stadium sits on the island of Sant'Elena, a 30-minute walk along the coastline from Piazza San Marco.

The stadium was hit by a tornado in 1970, resulting in the capacity being reduced significantly. Stadio Pier Luigi Penzo has 11,150 seats, less than half of the record attendance of 26,000, versus AC Milan in 1966.
