Vince Gill Biography

Vincent Grant Gill was born in April 1957 in Norman, Oklahoma, and at an early age, his family would often listen to the Grand Ole Opry, thereby introducing their young child to country music traditions.

His interests musically were not only restricted to country music, but also stretched to bluegrass and rock, which is evident from his own impressive catalogue.

In 1978, he joined the rock group Pure Prairie League, and during his spell with the band as guitarist and singer, they secured a top-ten Billboard hit with Let Me Love You Tonight. Overall he appeared on three albums with the band before he left.

In 1982, he joined the Cherry Bombs before opting to start his solo career, which began with the release of his debut album, The Things That Matter, in 1985 and that record included a string of hits with True Love, If It Weren't for Him, Oklahoma Borderline and With You all charting on the US Country charts.

With his third solo album, Vince Gill proved his ability to break into the mainstream, with When I Call Your Name going two times platinum. In 1992, he secured his big breakthrough with the release of I Still Believe In You, which was a top ten US Billboard triumph, selling over four million copies in the United States alone. 1998's The Key, Vince Gill's eighth studio album, earned him a first-ever US Country Music Charts number one. In 2000, he married singer Amy Grant and he continues to release solo albums with regularity.

In 2017, following the death of Glenn Frey, Vince Gill was invited to join the lineup of the best-selling group The Eagles and joined the historic band's tour later the same year and has continued to travel across the world with the Hotel California superstars.

As well as selling millions of records across the world, Vince Gill has also earned a number of accolades and awards. Among these was his induction into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2005. He followed that by being welcomed warmly into the Country Music Hall of Fame two years later.

He has won over 20 Grammy Awards and is among the Country Music Association's most frequent award winners. He has also won Best Country Vocal Performance awards from the Grammys, the Country Music Association, and others. He has been honoured at the Country Music Awards on several occasions, and his world-class guitar playing has also seen him cited as among the best in the business.
