Sheryl Crow Biography

Sheryl Crow was born in Kennett, Missouri, in 1962 and rose to prominence as a backing singer for huge acts, including Stevie Wonder and Michael Jackson. She released her first solo studio album in 1993 with Tuesday Night Music Club, proving to be an outstanding success.

The album sold over four and a half million copies in the United States alone and included the hit singles Run, Baby, Run, All I Wanna Do, Leaving Las Vegas and Strong Enough, all of which are still very much part of her established live shows.

Sheryl Crow's second studio album, the self-titled release, also sold well and was a top ten hit across the globe and was a triple platinum seller in the US. It also led to Sheryl Crow winning two Grammy Awards, including for Best Rock Album and Best Female Rock Vocal Performance. That album included the hugely successful If It Makes You Happy and Everyday is a Winding Road.

The Globe Sessions followed in 1998 and spawned the hit song Favorite Mistake, once again sold millions of copies and cemented her place among the most consistent performers in the world. This led to renewed interest in seeing Sheryl live, and this led to massive headlining tours.

C'mon C'mon in 2002 was another chart-topper, as were the subsequent releases Wildflower (2005) and Detour (2008); these were followed by a less-than-successful Christmas album that was followed by a return to form with 100 Miles from Memphis in 2010, where her move to the country genre worked effortlessly.

Her Detour album was recorded at her Nashville farm, which included an appearance from her son Wyatt on Lullaby for Wyatt.

Her 2003 Greatest Hits compilation sold over four million copies in the United States and included another hit as she covered the classic The First Cut Is the Deepest.

She joined the Rolling Stones on their tour in 2002 and has always gravitated to working with some of the best and most successful artists on the planet, all eager to work with her due to her great voice and obvious songwriting talent. Among these was Tony Bennett, with Crow working with the crooner on The Girl I Love in 2012, while in 2010, she worked with both Kid Rock and Keith Urban on the hit track Lean on Me.

In 2019, Sheryl Crow released Threads, which proved a critical success but had less of a commercial impact than she would have been used to during her most successful years. That album saw Sheryl Crow team up with legends including Eric Clapton, Sting, Johnny Cash, Stevie Nicks and Willie Nelson.

In 2022 she played with Brandi Carlile at Austin City Limits and still pulls in a massive crowd.

A new album is set for release in 2024, with Evolution sure to be another stellar triumph.
