Stevie Nicks Biography

Stevie Nicks was born in May 1948 in Phoenix, Arizona and formed her first band, Changing Times, while still a teenager. It was during this time she met Lindsey Buckingham, who would become her partner and a fellow member of Fleetwood Mac.

In December 1974, both Nicks and Buckingham were invited to join the other members of Fleetwood Mac, and almost instantly, the band, that were already very successful, then became a worldwide phenomenon.

Along with Mick Fleetwood, John McVie and Christine McVie, Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham formed the classic Fleetwood Mac Lineup that secured incredible success.

In 1977 the band released Rumours, an album that is considered by many as among the best ever recorded and a record that went on to sell over 40 million copies.

Tusk (1979) and Mirage (1982) proved big successes also, albeit not on the same scale as Rumours but their 1987 studio album, Tango In the Night, proved another monumental record, selling over 15 million records.

During the peak of the band's fame, Stevie Nicks provided astounding vocals and wrote many hit songs, including Gold Dust Woman, The Chain, Rhiannon, Dreams, and Go Your Own Way. Indeed, many of the band's favorite songs were penned by the American star.

Tensions within the band were forming in the early 1980s, and Stevie Nicks opted to release solo material, and her debut studio album, Bella Donna, proved a commercial and critical success, going to number one on the US Billboard Albums chart.

The record included one of her most famous solo tracks, Edge of Seventeen, which was a big success.

1983 saw her release The Wild Heart, which also charted well and gave her hit singles such as Stand Back If Anyone Falls and Nightbird. Rock a Little came out in 1985 and provided the top ten hit Talk to Me, and her next album, The Other Side of the Mirror, included Talk to Me, another smash hit.

In 2011 her In Your Dreams release was widely lauded as among the best of her career and included instant classics such as Secret Love, For What It's Worth and New Orleans.

24 Karat Gold: Songs from the Vault came out in 2014 and was her eighth studio album, and also broke into the top ten on the US Billboard charts.

Her 24 Karat Gold Tour saw Stevie Nicks play 67 dates across three continents and was a roaring success, confirming that even aside from her Fleetwood Mac bandmates, she has more than enough to keep a crowd entertained.

Such is the standing of the great Stevie Nicks that she has actually been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame not once but twice. First as a member of Fleetwood Mac in 1988 and then as a solo artist in 2019.

Stevie Nicks an enduring legend of rock music and has greatly influenced generations of female singer-songwriters that have followed in her wake, including the likes of Taylor Swift, Sheryl Crow and Florence Welch.
