George Harvey Strait Sr was born in May 1952 in Poteet, Texas, and his early musical leaning was towards rock and roll and has cited the influence The Beatles had on his early musical forays.

After a stint in the military, his music career started to get a foothold. After failing to get a record deal for many years, MCA snapped him up. His debut album, Strait Country, was released in 1981 and was a success. Singles from his debut album, Unwound, Down and Out and If You're Thinking You Want a Stranger (There's One Coming Home) were hits.

Astonishing Success

The 1980s proved an astonishing period of success for George Strait with Right or Wrong (1983), Does Fort Worth Ever Cross Your Mind (1984), Something Special (1985), #7 (1986), Ocean Front Property (1987), If You Ain' Lovin' You Ain't Livin' (1988) and Beyond the Blue Neon (1989) all going to the top of the US Country Music Charts.

Livin' It Up
