Despite first sharing a pitch in the 1902/03 FA Cup, these clubs have a very limited history of on-field meetings. Their inaugural meeting saw Arsenal win by five goals to nil in the replay of this Qualifying Round tie.

The teams continued to battle it out until WWII broke out in 1939. Following the War, Brentford were relegated from the First Division and would remain away from the top flight for more than 70 years.

• Poland goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny moved to Arsenal as a teenager and he gained valuable first-team exposure during a loan at Brentford in the 2009/10 season.

• Josh DaSilva is another graduate of the Hale End Academy. The England youth international made just three appearances for Arsenal’s senior team, each of them in the League Cup, before switching to Championship side Brentford in 2018.

• In 2023, Spain goalkeeper David Raya signed for Arsenal from Brentford on an initial loan deal before completing a long-term move to the Emirates Stadium the following year.
