These clubs first shared a pitch in 1936 but, from 1954, they went more than five decades without meeting. During that time, Everton won four First Division titles and the FA Cup three times.
Brentford, meanwhile, are yet to lift a major trophy as of the end of the 2022/23 season. The west London club endured a turbulent period in the mid-20th century and almost ceased to exist in the 60s.
After 56 years, Brentford and Everton clashed in the 2010 League Cup. This third-round tie ended all square after 90 minutes and couldn’t be decided in extra-time either. The Bees, then in the third tier of English football, remarkably won on penalties but would lose in the following round – also on penalties – to eventual champions Birmingham City.

The Bees and the Toffees were paired in the Fourth Round of the 2022 FA Cup. Everton claimed a 4-1 win at Goodison Park, but crashed out to Crystal Palace in the quarter-finals.
