Brentford vs West Ham United History
The first-ever meeting between these clubs came towards the end of the 19th century, in the 1898/99 season. Both teams were participating in the second tier of the Southern League, independent from the Football League established in 1888.
After 26 clashes, Brentford & West Ham met in the FA Cup for the first time in 1927. The teams played out a 1-1 draw at Upton Park before a Fourth Round replay at Griffin Park, which Brentford won by two goals to zero.
In 1933, the teams first shared a pitch in the Second Division of the Football League. They continued to meet on a regular basis following World War II until Brentford were relegated to the Third Division in 1954.
They would subsequently go almost 40 years without facing one another, with West Ham playing top-flight football for much of that period. The Hammers won the FA Cup in 1964, again in 1975 & for a third time in 1980. They reached the FA Cup final in 2006, but lost out to Liverpool.
More recently, West Ham captured the UEFA Conference League in 2023. At the same time, Brentford had yet to win a major honour for the first time.

Saïd Benrahma signed for Brentford in 2018, from French side OGC Nice, in a deal worth in the region of £1m. West Ham paid an initial £5m loan fee for Benrahma in 2021 before completing the £25m acquisition of the Algeria winger.

Winston Reid amassed more than 220 appearances for WHUFC, across an 11-year spell with the club. In 2021, the central defender joined Brentford on loan & contributed towards the Bees’ successfully achieving promotion to the Premier League for the first time ever.
