With two of the financially-backed heavyweights going up against each other for Premier League honours at the end of the season, Chelsea vs Manchester City has everything to become an instant classic every time they take to the field.
The Blues have become one of the most recognised football clubs in the world over the last two decades or so, following the acquisition of the club by Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich. The club have become perennial winners over the years, as they look to destroy everyone in their path as they aim to lift a number of trophies each year, with no fewer than five top-flight titles sitting in their cabinet already.
However, the same can be said about Manchester City as well, as they have created their own storied history over the last decade or so as well, directly competing with Chelsea for much of it. The Citizens, who have had the likes of Pep Guardiola lead them to unparalleled success, have managed to obtain no fewer than six Premier League titles and a vast number of domestic cup trophies as they have been hugely successful in the League Cup and FA Cup over the years.
The 41,837-seater Stamford Bridge has become the west London outfit’s fortress over the years and has since gone down as one of the more iconic stadiums in the Premier League, making it one venue that definitely needs to have been experienced physically.
With two sides with the status that each carries, it is hugely difficult to predict how things will turn out regarding the result, although goals can generally be expected as there is rarely a draw when the two sides meet at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea have managed to put two past the Citizens on a number of occasions, whilst there has also been one moment that saw the Blues stick six past the Manchester outfit as well. However, there has been a mixed bag of results as well, with 2-4 and 0-3 defeats sitting firmly in the mind.
With the huge financial backing that both clubs have available to them, it provides a perfect stage for some of the best footballers in the world to strut their stuff and this fixture has seen some brilliant performances in the past.
The likes of Didier Drogba, Frank Lampard and Eden Hazard have all excelled for the Blues, whereas Sergio Aguero, Raheem Sterling and Kevin De Bruyne - a former Chelsea man - have also caused the hosts nightmares at Stamford Bridge.
When two serial Premier League winners go up against each other, you can usually expect a huge excitement around the fixture and Chelsea versus Manchester City is no different. The Blues and Citizens tend to go out with an attacking focus to try and punish each other, therefore making it a game that is incredibly difficult to predict, although a large number of goals do appear to be on offer on a semi-regular basis, making it an encounter that needs to be seen in person.
