In 1907, the first-ever meeting between these teams ended goalless at Villa Park. Over the years, Aston Villa & Chelsea have contested more than 160 competitive meetings, with most of these coming in the top tier of the English football pyramid.

AVFC beat Chelsea, by three goals to one, in the 1920 FA Cup semi-finals before defeating Huddersfield in the final to lift the trophy for a sixth time. By the end of the 2023/24 season, these clubs had won the FA Cup a combined 15 times.

• Tammy Abraham & Ross Barkley both moved to Villa Park on loan from Chelsea in 2018 & 2020, respectively.

• In 2022, Chelsea signed teenager Carney Chukwuemeka from Aston Villa for a reported fee of £20m.

• In addition, ex-Chelsea player Roberto di Matteo was Villa manager for a brief period in 2016. The former Italy midfielder had also taken charge of the Chelsea senior team in 2012, guiding the Blues to glory in the UEFA Champions League.
