Aston Villa vs Everton Head-to-Head

This match-up sees two of England's oldest football clubs pitted against one another. Since 1888, Aston Villa & Everton have met more than 200 times, with the vast majority of those coming in the English top flight.

Both of these teams were ever-present in the first 24 seasons of the Premier League following the inception of the competition in 1992, before Aston Villa were relegated to the EFL Championship in 2017. During that period, particularly the mid-to-late 2010s, both clubs endured spells in which they qualified for European football under the management of Martin O'Neill & David Moyes, respectively.

AVFC were promoted from the EFL Championship in 2019 and, since then, they have tended to get the better of the Toffees. Across the subsequent four Premier League campaigns, the Villans were not once on the wrong side of the scoreline in eight clashes with Everton.

The teams have also met several times in the FA Cup, most notably in the 1897 final in which Aston Villa claimed a 3-2 win and a third FA Cup triumph. They would meet again, in 1905, in the semi-finals as the Villans emerged victorious once more and they would go on to lift the FA Cup over Newcastle United.

More recently, in 2000, Aston Villa & Everton were drawn together in the FA Cup quarter-finals. Not for the first time, the Birmingham-based club eliminated its Merseyside counterpart & advanced to the final albeit a losing effort (1-0) to Chelsea at Wembley.
