Fulham FC vs Everton FC History

The first on-field meeting between these clubs came in the 1926 FA Cup. Following a stalemate at Goodison Park, Fulham won the Third Round replay by a single goal to nil at Craven Cottage.

More than 20 years went by before the teams reconvened, again in the FA Cup, in 1948. The same result ensued in this Fifth Round tie, as the London-based side claimed victory in the replay.

The following year, Fulham and Everton contested a league fixture for the first time in the old First Division.

Fulham battled against relegation for much of the 60s, before eventually succumbing to the drop in 1968. Although they didn’t know it at the time, the Cottagers would remain away from the top flight for more than 30 years.

While Fulham played their football outside of the First Division (and later the Premier League), Everton enjoyed success during the 1980s – winning the FA Cup as well as two league titles.

Several well-known players have donned the badges of both these clubs, including:

• Andy Johnson moved from Goodison Park to Craven Cottage in 2008, for a reported transfer fee of £11m. The ex-striker made 187 appearances in the Premier League, with more than three-quarters of that tally in the colours of Everton or Fulham.

• Louis Saha was just 21 when he left his native France to sign for Fulham. The forward later joined Everton on a free transfer in 2008, following a four-year spell with Manchester United.

• Everton acquired Johnny Heitinga from Spanish side Atletico Madrid in 2009. The Netherlands defender made 140 appearances for the Toffees, before switching to Fulham in 2014 for a brief spell in London.

• In 2023, Fulham paid in the region of £22m for Nigeria international Alex Iwobi. The attacking midfielder had previously sealed a £35m transfer from Arsenal to Everton in 2019.

Fulham FC vs Everton FC Head-to-Head

When these teams contested their first Premier League clash in the 2001/02 season, it was just their 33rd meeting overall. More than 25 years passed since they had last shared a pitch, in the 1975 FA Cup, and more than three decades since their previous encounter in the English top flight in 1968.

Fulham won this league fixture seven seasons on the bounce until the 2007/08 campaign, keeping six clean sheets in Everton’s visits to the Cottage.

In 2011/12, the Toffees scored twice in the closing stages of this fixture to seal victory at Craven Cottage for only the second time in the Premier League era. Louis Saha rounded off the scoring in a 3-1 win against his former club.

Later that same season, the teams clashed in the Fourth Round of the FA Cup. Marouane Fellaini scored the winning goal as Everton went on to progress to the semi-finals, but ultimately lost to Merseyside rivals Liverpool at Wembley.

More recently, during the 2020/21 Premier League campaign, Fulham and Everton played out a five-goal thriller at Craven Cottage. Dominic Calvert-Lewin netted twice as the travelling Toffees ran out 3-2 winners.
