The first-ever meeting between these clubs came towards the end of the 19th century, in the 1898/99 season, as West Ham were victorious both at home & away.

Five years later, the teams met in the FA Cup for the first time. Fulham earned a maiden victory over the Hammers, by a single goal to nil. In 1919 they first contested a fixture in the Football League, in the old Second Division.

• In more recent times, Luis Boa Morte was a Fulham player for more than five years before switching directly to WHUFC in 2007. The ex-Portugal international amassed close to 300 appearances in the Premier League, with the vast majority of those coming during his stints with these two teams.

• Bobby Zamora spent four years with West Ham until moving to the Cottagers in 2008. He had previously played for another London-based club, Tottenham, before signing at Upton Park.

• Alphonse Areola joined Fulham in 2020, on loan from Paris St-Germain. The France goalkeeper moved on loan to the Hammers the following year, before signing a long-term deal at the London Stadium in 2022.

• Issa Diop went in the opposite direction, joining Fulham in a £15m deal in 2022.
