The first time these fellow London clubs shared a pitch was in the FA Cup during the 1906/07 season. Their Second Round tie went to a replay, which Crystal Palace won.

Their first league meeting(s) came in the Second Division campaign of 1921/22, as Palace took victory at Selhurst Park.

After clashing in the 1931/32 Third Division, the teams did not cross paths again until 1966 in the League Cup.

Their meetings were semi-frequent during the 70s, with both sides dipping in and out of tiers of the Football League. A similar theme followed in the 80s, though Fulham and Palace played together in the Second Division for four successive years until the former were relegated in 1986.

Crystal Palace were a founding member of the Premier League in 1992 meanwhile, just two years later, Fulham were relegated to the fourth tier of English football.

• Roy Hodgson was involved with the Crystal Palace Academy in the early-to-mid 1960s but he never broke into the first-team. Beyond his playing career, Hodgson was Fulham manager for two-and-a-half years until the end of the 2009/10 season. The former England boss was appointed manager of Palace in 2017 and again in 2023.

• Brede Hangeland made more than 270 appearances across a six-year association with Fulham. The 91-cap former Norway international then moved from west London to south, joining Palace on a free transfer in 2014.

• Denmark defender Joachim Andersen spent the 2020/21 season at Fulham, on loan from French side Lyon, before signing for Fulham on a long-term deal.

At the turn of the 21st century, the Cottagers and the Eagles both played in Division One (now known as the Championship). Louis Saha scored as Fulham beat Palace, 3-1, in October 2000.

The first time these teams met in a Premier League campaign was in 2004/05. Two goals by ex-England striker Andy Cole earned Fulham a 3-1 victory over their city rivals on New Year’s Day.
