Wiz Khalifa Biography

Born Cameron Jibril Thomaz in North Dakota in 1987, Wiz Khalifa and his family moved to Pittsburgh, where he then opted to take up his stage name.

The American rapper hawked out mixtape after mixtape and started to attract attention, and in 2007, he signed with Warner Bros. Records.

In 2008 Wiz Khalifa founded Taylor Gang Entertainment, which has gone on to sign big artists.

Black and Yellow

In 2010 his single Black and Yellow blew up and went to number one on the Billboard Singles charts selling six million copies and making him a truly superstar rapper.

Other singles from his Rolling Papers album also charted well, with Roll Up and No Sleep proving big hits globally.

Blacc Hollywood

He followed up that successful album with O.N.I.F.C (which included the big sellers Work Hard, Play Hard and Remember You, and Blacc Hollywood, both of which performed very well indeed.

In 2012 he worked with Maroon 5 on Payphone, a song that was a success in the US and the UK and showed his crossover appeal.

See You Again

As far as establishing a wider mainstream audience, not that Wiz Khalifa was in a position to need to do so, he went ahead and achieved this when he released See You Again for the soundtrack of Furious 7 in 2015, a song that proved a global hit or epic proportions.

The song, featuring Charlie Puth, went to number one in the United States and achieved sales that equated 14 times Platinum and is just outside the 100 most successful songs on the chart ever.

In 2016, he teamed up with Travis Scott on Bake Sale, another hit, and has regularly worked with French Montana on a number of projects.

Rolling Papers 2

Wiz Khalifa released Rolling Papers 2 in 2018 and worked with a slew of big names in hip-hop and beyond, including Bruno Mars, Snoop Dogg and Gucci Mane.
