Jack Johnson Biography

Jack Johnson was born in Oahu, Hawaii, in May 1975 and started songwriting at a very young age. After appearing as a support act for the likes of the Dave Matthews Band, he saw one of his songs feature on G.Love's album Philadelphonic and in 2001, he released his debut album, Brushfire Fairytales, which sold over a million copies in the United States.

His second studio album, On and On, reached number three on the US Billboard Album Charts, but it was his third album that truly saw Jack Johnson become a mainstream success.

In Between Dreams reached number one in the UK and number two in the United States, sold millions of copies, and spawned a string of hit singles, including Sitting, Waiting, Wishing, Good People, Breakdown and Better Together.

He then produced the soundtrack for Curious George, an animated film starring Will Ferrell, and Sing-a-Longs and Lullabies for the Film Curious George proved a monster hit. It was the first soundtrack to top the US Billboard Album Charts for a number of years.

It led to the release of Upside Down, Jack Johnson's highest charting single.

Sleep Through the Static (2008), To the Sea (2010) and From Here to Now to You (2013) all reached the top of the US Billboard Album Charts and cemented Jack Johnson's star power.

Jack Johnson is a keen surfer and is a keen activist, helping to support environmental education. He was particularly active after the devastating fires hit his hometown. He regularly appears at environmentally active festivals and has done so alongside other musical legends like Jackson Browne, Eddie Vedder and Willie Nelson.

Along with his wife Kim, Jack Johnson formed the Johnson Ohana Charitable Foundation and is very active in environmentalism and sustainability.
