• Teddy Sheringham was a Manchester United player for four years until 2001 and he played a vital role in the team's historic Treble-winning season of 1998/99. The seasoned England striker joined West Ham in 2004, four years before hanging up his boots.
• Rio Ferdinand was one of many talented footballers to emerge from West Ham's famed Academy. He switched to Leeds United in 2000, before signing with Man United two years later for £30m – a British record transfer fee at the time.
• Michael Carrick also developed in the youth teams at West Ham, earning a move to Tottenham in 2004. The central midfielder was signed by Man United in 2006 and went on to amass 464 appearances for the Reds and he became a five-time Premier League winner before also being named club captain in 2017.
• Former Argentina forward Carlos Tevez spent two years at Old Trafford from 2007-09, on loan from the Hammers.
• Patrice Evra was acquired by Man Utd in 2006 and he played 379 times for the Old Trafford outfit. West Ham was the last club the France defender played for before bringing an end to his career in 2019.
• David Moyes was selected as the successor to Sir Alex Ferguson in 2013, though the Scotsman was dismissed less than one season into his six-year contract. Moyes was appointed West Ham manager in 2017 and again towards the end of 2019.
