About Brazil vs Uruguay World Cup Tickets 2024/25

Brazil vs Uruguay History

Brazil play Uruguay on a regular basis, not least because they face each other twice every time the qualification process for a World Cup tournament begins. In the qualifying group for Qatar 2022, Brazil won both games, 4-1 at home and 2-0 away.

Brazil at the World Cup

Of all the national football teams, none have achieved more than Brazil at the FIFA World Cup. The Samba Stars have won the tournament on five occasions.

In 1958, with a teenage Pele wowing the masses, Brazil secured a World Cup crown with a 5-2 win over hosts Sweden. In 1962 they repeated the feat in Chile. Perhaps their most famous FIFA World Cup triumph came in 1970 when they thumped Italy 4-1 in the final in Mexico.

It took another 24 years for Brazil to clinch their fourth crown, once again beating Italy, but this time via a penalty shoot-out in the US. They got their hands on the trophy for the fifth time in 2002 when Ronaldo played a key role in securing the FIFA World Cup win in Japan and the South Korea Republic, with the famed forward netting twice against Germany in the World Cup final.

Things have been a bit lean for Brazil since that success, and they reached an all-time low when in 2014 they were annihilated by Germany 7-1 in the World Cup semi-finals in their home country. 2018 wasn't that much better; they lost out to Belgium in the quarter-finals.

Brazil are rightly considered perhaps the best team in world football right now, and they are well-placed to go all the way. They boast a squad full of experienced talents, such as Thiago Silva and Neymar, as well as exciting youngsters like Vinicius Junior and Gabriel Martinelli.

Brazil should have no issues in terms of their group-stage opponents. They are expected to qualify with ease as they go up against Serbia, Switzerland, and Cameroon.

Uruguay at the World Cup

Uruguay have twice won the World Cup. Their first success came in the inaugural tournament in 1930, which they also hosted. They then won a second time in 1950 but have failed to hit those dizzy heights again.

In 2010 they battled their way all the way to the semi-finals before losing out to the Netherlands, who then lost the final to Spain. In that tournament, forwards Luis Suarez and Edinson Cavani played a key role, and the former Liverpool and Manchester United strikers will do so again in 2022 in what may well be the final finals tournament for both veteran forwards.

Uruguay have a tricky group stage to negotiate as they start their World Cup 2022 campaign against South Korea before then facing Cristiano Ronaldo's Portugal before ending their first phase with a potentially problematic clash with Ghana.
