Who Are the Barbarians?

The Barbarian Football Club are an invitational squad made up of the best players playing across the world with stars from over 30 countries having been selected for the team since their first clash, way back in 1890.

Every year the Barbarians take part in matches as part of tours to a particular region and interest in Barbarians rugby tickets is always high as it's very much considered an honour for the major rugby players who are selected to be part of the group that takes to the field.

The History of the Barbarians

Originally the Barbarians rugby team were something of a fund raising charity endeavour but the concept has grown and become a whole lot more than just an exhibition tour.

The 'Baa Baas' took part in their first international match in 1915 when they beat Wales 26-10 at Cardiff Arms Park.

The team have taken part in a total of 99 matches, winning 53 and losing 42. They have a strong record against home nations teams from Scotland and Wales but less so when facing the likes of South Africa, Australia and New Zealand.

The Barbarians are currently coached by former England national team coach Eddie Jones, even though he is also now the coach of Australia.

When Do The Barbarians Play Their Next Matches?

The Barbarians traditionally take on their opponents, when they are not on tour, at Twickenham, and games that take place at that venerable venue are always popular.

In November 2022 they faced an All Blacks XV at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium where they ran out narrow 35-31 winners. This came after wins over England and Spain in June.

The Killik Cup

In 2023 the Barbarians will face a World XV in what promises to be a real spectacular. This game will take place on May 28th at Twickenham. They'll take each other on in a battle to win the Killik Cup, the annual clash between the Barbarians and a touring nation.

The competition has run since 2011 and the Barbarians have secured victory on four occasions, losing on six occasions and drawing with South Africa in a 31-31 stalemate in 2016.

Twickenham Stadium

Twickenham Stadium is one of the best stadiums in the world and is regularly used for rugby internationals, most prominently by England during the Six Nations Championship as well as for big musical events.

For rugby matches it has a capacity of 82,000 and is situated in south west London and can be reached by Richmond, a station that is on the District Line and also accessible via Overground routes.
