Darius Rucker was born in May 1966 in Charleston, South Carolina, and he has been the lead singer of Hootie & The Blowfish since 1986.

Hootie & The Blowfish

The soft rock band Hootie & The Blowfish experienced astonishing success. Their debut album, Cracked Rear View, proved an incredible success, selling over 20 million copies in the US and charting high across Europe. The band, founded by Rucker, Jim Sonefeld, Mark Bryan, and Dean Felber, are among the best-loved groups in modern history.

The record included hit singles like Hold My Hand, Let Her Cry, Only Wanna Be with You and Time. The follow-up, 1996's Fairweather Johnson, was another big hit, heading to the top of the US Billboard charts and spawning further successful singles, including Old Man & Me (When I Get to Heaven), Tucker's Town and Sad Caper.

Musical Chairs (1998), Hootie & The Blowfish (2003) and Looking for Lucky (2005) followed before the group took a long break, returning for their sixth album, Imperfect Circle in 2019, which was a moderate hit.

Solo Career

Darius Rucker released his debut solo album, Back to Then, in 2002, which did not perform very well commercially. In 2008 Darius Rucker moved towards country music and was an instant hit. Each of his first three singles in this new guise went to the top of the Hot Country Songs Charts, with Don't Think I Don't Think About It, It Won't Be Like This for Long and Alright, all doing very well.

Move To Country

His move to Capitol Records Nashville has proven very successful. 2008's Learn to Live went to the top of the US Country Music Charts and sold over a million copies. He saw each of his next two albums also top the charts and in 2014, his Christmas album, Home for the Holidays, also did incredibly well.

Wagon Wheel

His 2013 album, True Believers was an astonishing hit and included the hit version of the classic track Wagon Wheel, which featured Lady Antebellum. In 2023, Darius Rucker released his eighth studio album, Carolyn's Boy, which was supported by an expansive tour. Among Darius Rucker's biggest solo hits are the popular live tracks, Homegrown Honey, If I Told You, For the First Time, Beers and Sunshine and History in the Making.

Darius Rucker has sold millions of records, both with Hootie & The Blowfish and also during his solo career, and he has also won a number of accolades.
