About Milwaukee Bucks Tickets 2025/26

The Bucks became an expansion team in the National Basketball Association (NBA) in 1968, and though they struggled in their debut season, Milwaukee then took to life in the league surprisingly well, securing their first NBA Finals appearance in 1970-71, where they defeated the Baltimore Bullets in four games.

Led by inspirational head coach Larry Costello the Bucks continued to impress for a number of seasons, making it to the NBA Finals for a second time in 1973-74, only to lose out to the Boston Celtics in a thrilling seven-game series.

Their early 70s success was in no small part down to the superb displays of a young Kareem Abdul Jabbar, who then left the Bucks to join the Los Angeles Lakers in 1975, and Oscar Robertson.

Consistency Under Don Nelson

Under Don Nelson, the team was a consistent presence in the post-season, making it to the playoffs every season from 1979-80 to 1990-91.

During this era, the likes of Marques Johnson and Sidney Moncrief were big Bucks heroes.

In the 90s and early 2000s, success was out of reach, but nonetheless, Ray Allen and Sam Cassell impressed.

The Budenholzer Era

However, it wasn't until the reign of Mike Budenholzer that Milwaukee once again dominated the Eastern Conference. In his first season as the new head coach, he led the team to the Conference Finals, where they lost to the Toronto Raptors. That was after he'd secured the Central Division for the first time in almost 20 years.

In his second season, in 2020-21, they finally won their second NBA Finals series, securing the NBA Championship with a six-game win over the Phoenix Suns, having beaten the Atlanta Hawks in the Conference Finals, thanks chiefly to the efforts of legend in the making Giannis Antetokounmpo.

The season after the Bucks won the NBA title was one of consolidation, and under Budenholzer, they are very much a team to watch out for.

The succesful set-up was very much built around Greek star Antetokounmpo, who won back-to-back NBA MVP awards in 2020 and 2021, but Budenholzer had other big-name players to call upon, including Jrue Holiday and Khris Middleton.

Their chief rivals are the Chicago Bulls, who are one of their Central Division rivals, along with the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Indiana Pacers, and the Detroit Pistons.
