The 2023 Rugby World Cup will be the fifth time the Namibia rugby union team has qualified for the showpiece event, and head coach Allister Coetzee, who previously coached the Springboks of South Africa between 2016 and 2018, will be looking to make an impact in France.

Namibia find themselves in one of the toughest pools at the World Cup, and Coetzee's side is set for a baptism of fire in September and October 2023.

It is worth noting that Namibia, in five Rugby World Cup tournaments, has never tasted victory.

Tough Test

First up for Namibia is a stern test against Italy, which is followed by the daunting task of facing the All Blacks of New Zealand in Toulouse, and it doesn't get any easier for the African nation as they then have to play hosts France at the Stade Velodrome in Marseille, which can be an intimidating cauldron for visiting nations.

Arguably their best chance of securing any wins at the Rugby World Cup comes on the 27th of September when they close out their pool phase schedule by facing Uruguay in Lyon.

Namibia are currently ranked outside the top 20 nations, but they did experience something of a heyday back in 1991. In that year, they secured two wins each against both Ireland and Italy, all in the capital city of Windhoek. Since then, they've manfully attempted to replicate this highlight without success.
