Real Betis History & Info
The club was founded in 1907, two years after the formation of city rivals Sevilla FC. Originally called Sevilla Balompié, the name was altered to Real Betis Balompié in 1914.
Real Betis are by no means one of the leading clubs in Spanish football, having won only a single La Liga title compared to the dozens won by the likes of Real Madrid & FC Barcelona.
Los Verdiblancos clinched a maiden Spanish league championship in the 1934/35 season but have failed to add to their collection in more than 85 years since then. The Seville-based side became Copa del Rey champions for the first time in 1977, defeating Athletic Bilbao at the Estadio Vicente Calderón in Madrid.
Betis claimed a second Copa del Rey crown in 2004/05, thanks to a 2-1 victory over Osasuna. This tally increased to three titles in 2022 when Manuel Pellegrini's team overcame Valencia, 5-4 on penalties, at Estadio La Cartuja which is situated in Seville, 5 miles north of Real Betis's home ground.
Real Betis also reached the Conference League Final in 2025, but were beaten by Chelsea 4-1 in Wroclaw Stadium, Poland.

Real Betis Stadium
Estadio Benito Villamarín has been the home of Los Verdiblancos ever since the stadium first opened in 1929. The venue has undergone several expansions over the years, most recently in 2017.
The Benito Villamarín Stadium has a 60,721 capacity, making Real Betis home matches a treat for their supporters. This ground hosted two matches at the 1982 FIFA World Cup, both of them involving the Brazil national team.
Since the end of the 2024/25 season, Real Betis have moved out of the Benito Villamarín Stadium whilst it undergoes renovation. For three years, Real Betis are hosting their home matches at Estadio de la Cartuja.
