André Leon Mari Nicolas Rieu was born in October 1949 in Maastricht, Netherlands and is known as one of the most successful international soloists of all time. His father was the conductor of the Maastricht Symphony Orchestra, and as such, his path was seemingly already laid out.

In the mid-1970s, he studied at the Music Academy in Brussels and released his first album of recordings in 1984. In 1987, he created the Johann Strauss Orchestra, which initially began with 12 players and has risen to between 50 and 60 performers today, including many international soloists.

The Johann Strauss Orchestra play dozens of dates every year, and they regularly appear on lists covering the most successful touring acts of the year, with huge crowds flocking to each show.

By 1994, his standing had grown greatly, and his Strauss & Co. album was an international success, charting well globally.

In 2009, he took things to new heights with his Forever Vienna album reaching number two on the UK charts, and the following year, his Moonlight Serenade was another big seller.

André Rieu released his homage to Abba, Celebrates Abba/Music of the Night, in 2013, which was another commercial success. In 2024, he released his Love is All Around album, which was supported by an extensive world tour.
