Bayern Munich vs Paris Saint-Germain History

Paris Saint-Germain was founded in 1970, precisely seven decades after the birth of Bayern Munich. Given its longer existence, it's no surprise that the German outfit has achieved a great deal more than PSG.

Bayern came to the fore in the mid-1970s, winning three consecutive European Cup titles, with the likes of Franz Beckenbauer and Gerd Müller spearheading the team. Several high-profile names have history with both of these European giants.

• Kingsley Coman was aged 9 when he joined the PSG Academy, and he developed through the youth teams before earning his first-team debut in 2013. Due to limited minutes with the senior team, Coman completed a free transfer to Juventus in 2014. He signed for Bayern, initially on loan prior to sealing a permanent move to Bavaria in 2017. The France winger has played more than 290 times for Bayern, and even scored against his former team in the 2019/20 Champions League final.

Bayern and PSG have met in no fewer than seven Champions League campaigns. The German side cruised to a 5-1 victory in this fixture during the group stage in 1997/98. The teams met again in the group phase in 2000 and once more in 2017; the latter saw Robert Lewandowski open the scoring for Bayern to claim a 3-1 win at the Allianz Arena.

The first time these two teams clashed beyond the UCL group stage was in 2020.
