West Ham first played Newcastle United away in February 1908 when they lost an FA Cup tie 2-0.

In 1985/85, West Ham had one of their best campaigns ever, finishing third in the old English League Division One, and one of the highlights of the season was a 2-1 win at Newcastle United with Frank McAvennie and Tony Cottee both scoring, they also beat the Magpies 8-1 at Upton Park that year.

In March 1996, Philippe Albert, Faustino Asprilla, and Les Ferdinand all scored in a comfortable 3-0 win against West Ham, a game that saw Steve Potts sent off late on.

August 2002 saw Newcastle United thrash West Ham 4-0, with Lomano Lua Lua scoring twice and Alan Shearer and Nolberto Solano also scoring, with all the goals coming in the last 30 minutes.

In more recent times, West Ham have done pretty well when taking on Newcastle United on their own patch.

In December 2018, a brace from Mexican international Javier Hernandez and a third from Felipe Anderson saw the Hammers romp to a 3-0 win at St James’ Park. The following season goals from Michail Antonio and Tomas Soucek earned them a 2-2 draw, with Miguel Almiron and Jonjo Shelvey scoring for the home side.

In August 2021, West Ham went behind to an early Callum Wilson effort but leveled through Aaron Cresswell before Jacob Murphy put the home side back in front. The second half saw David Moyes’s side register three goals in 13 minutes, through Said Benrahma, Tomas Soucek, and Michail Antonio, to earn the Hammers a very laudable 4-2 win.
