The first time these two met was in an FA Cup clash in 1892, with their first league meeting occurring six years later.

Nottingham Forest took on Newcastle United in a 1974 FA Cup Quarter Final and promptly found themselves 3-1 up at St James’ Park; this prompted a crowd invasion, and despite the fact that two away players were injured in the melee, the game restarted and Newcastle United ended up mounting a comeback to win 4-3.

The game was, however, declared void after protests from Forest, and the game was replayed, firstly resulting in a goalless draw at Goodison Park and three days later, again at Everton’s home ground, Newcastle United edged the game 1-0 through a Malcolm Macdonald goal.
