Newcastle United vs Burnley Head to Head

The first time Burnley traveled to the northeast to face the Magpies came way back in February 1895 when they lost an FA Cup clash 2-1.

When the two sides met at St James’ Park in January 2015, it was the first league clash between the two at the stadium since 1982, which serves to show just how Burnley had struggled to get out of the lower leagues over the course of the intervening period.

In the clash, Steven Taylor opened the scoring for Newcastle United, only for his fellow defender, Paul Dummett, to score an own goal, but Jack Colback put the home side back in front after 26 minutes. Forward Danny Ings leveled mid-way through the second half before Moussa Sissoko once again put the Magpies ahead. It took a late goal from George Boyd to complete the scoring, making it 3-3.

In 2021/22, a goal from Callum Wilson was enough to give Newcastle United a 1-0 Premier League success, but when the two teams met in the EFL Cup Second Round, it was the away side that progressed, winning a penalty shoot-out after the tie had ended goalless.
