Republic of Ireland UEFA Nations League History

The inaugural UEFA Nations League campaign took place during the 2018/19 season, and the Republic of Ireland competed in League B. The Boys in Green finished bottom of their group, in four games.

Ireland remained winless throughout the 2020/21 Nations League, failing to record victory in six matches, but three draws were enough to stay above Bulgaria who were relegated to League C. The 2022/23 edition saw the Republic of Ireland claim two wins but could still only finish 3rd in their group, trailing Scotland & Ukraine.

The Boys in Green once again finished 3rd in their group in the 2024/25 Nations League – behind England and Greece – but this time moved on to the promotion/relegation play-offs. Ireland would meet Bulgaria in a two-legged tie in March 2025, with the winners guaranteed a place in League B for the 2026/27 Nations League campaign.
