Why a USA vs Mexico World Cup Final Would Be The Most Expensive 2026 Showpiece

As we head into the Round of 16 of the first-ever 48-team World Cup, there is little doubt that this tournament has lived up to expectations. Almost all the star players have turned up.

The stadiums have been full. Plenty of shocks have been recorded.

And, the first-ever Round of 32 produced some eye-catching games.

To truly be one of the best tournaments, the 2026 edition of the World Cup will need a fantastic final. In Qatar in 2022, France and Argentina played out an incredible game, which went to penalties as Leo Messi won the World Cup.

Another final between France and Argentina is very possible.

This blog attempts to discover, of the remaining teams left, which match-up would be the most expensive. Due to the bracket nature of the World Cup, not all teams can play each other in the final, they will meet in an earlier round.

For example, England look likely to play Brazil in the quarter-finals and Argentina in the semi-finals.

We analysed the ticket data from the tournament so far and attempted to decipher which would be the most expensive final at MetLife Stadium on July 19, 2026.

World Cup 2026 Final Ticket Prices: Key Takeaways

  • USA vs Mexico projects as the most expensive possible final, more than double today's baseline listing price.
  • Every matchup between the tournament's eight biggest teams prices above today's baseline, but France drags the price down the most.
  • A France vs Argentina final would be the cheapest of the "big eight" combinations, only marginally above today's levels.

How the World Cup 2026 Bracket Could Produce a USA vs Mexico Final

The 48-team World Cup splits into two bracket halves after the Round of 32, and each half sends one team to the final.

USA sit in the top half of the draw. They face Belgium in the Round of 16, then a potential quarter-final against the winner of Portugal or Croatia, Spain or Austria.

A semi-final against France, Paraguay, Canada or Morocco would follow.

Mexico sit in the bottom half. Their route runs through England in the Round of 16, then likely Brazil in the quarter-finals, before a semi-final against the winner from the Argentina and Colombia side of the draw.

Because USA and Mexico are in opposite halves, they can only meet in the final itself, on July 19 at MetLife Stadium.

That is what makes this such an interesting question for ticket prices.

Biggest World Cup 2026 Final Matchups and How Prices Would Move

We looked at the eight biggest teams still capable of reaching the final: USA, Mexico, England, Portugal, France, Spain, Argentina and Brazil.

Four sit in the top half of the bracket (USA, Portugal, France, Spain) and four sit in the bottom half (Mexico, England, Argentina, Brazil), so any one of the top four could meet any one of the bottom four in the final.

Using each team's resale demand so far, we projected where the final's starting and average prices would land for every combination, and compared that to today's baseline above.

Final Matchup Projected Starting Price ($) Projected Average Price ($) vs Today's Final
USA vs Mexico $14,391 $29,166 Up 110%

USA vs Mexico sits clear at the top, with Portugal vs Mexico close behind. Both host nations have local fanbases, and Mexico alone drives more resale demand than any other team left in the competition thanks to their Estadio Azteca crowds.

Team America, under coach Mauricio Pochettino, have grown in popularity as the tournament has progressed. Mexico are the only one of the three hosts that can legitimately claim to be football-mad. Neither side has ever played in a World Cup final before.

England, Portugal and Brazil cluster together just behind the hosts. Argentina sits a little below that group on raw resale price, despite Messi's pull, while Spain and France are clearly the two cheapest of the eight.

France sits lowest of all. They are playing some of the best football left in the tournament, but they do not carry the same resale weight as the co-hosts or the Latin American and European giants around them.

Les Bleus have been the stand-out team at the World Cup so far. Kylian Mbappe, Ousmane Dembele and Michael Olise are arguably the best World Cup attack since Brazil 2002. If they continue to play swashbuckling football, their final ticket prices could increase. The same applies for Spain's attack which includes the heir to Leo Messi at Barcelona, Lamine Yamal.

France vs Argentina is the closest match-up in our table to today's baseline, just 4% above it. A truly low-demand final, involving a side from outside this top eight such as Morocco, Switzerland or Norway, could plausibly price below today's starting level instead. Argentina vs France was a fantastic final in 2022 and could be the best value too.

Methodology For Predicting World Cup Final Ticket Prices

We built a demand index for the eight biggest teams still able to reach the World Cup 2026 final, using SeatPick's resale listing data from the group stage, Round of 32 and confirmed Round of 16 fixtures. Where the same fixture appeared in more than one data snapshot, we used the most recent price only, to avoid counting one match twice.

Each matchup's combined demand index was scaled so that an average pairing across all remaining teams in the draw lines up with today's actual Final listing ($6,859 starting, $13,902 average). That scaling factor was then applied to every combination among the eight teams above.

This is a data-led projection, not a guarantee. Actual Final listings will move once the real two finalists are confirmed, and can shift further with form, injuries and how far each team travels through the knockout rounds.
