Borussia Dortmund History & Info
While BVB has not seen success in the form of trophies too frequently in recent seasons, they are always competing towards the top of the Bundesliga table and are Bayern Munich's biggest rivals domestically.
The Black and Yellow have won eight league championships, five German Cups, one UEFA Champions League, one UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup and one Intercontinental Cup.
The most recent of their league titles came in 2012, as they successfully defended their title win from the previous season as well. Both of those title wins came under Jurgen Klopp, the former Liverpool manager. Klopp is widely regarded as Dortmund’s greatest manager, as not only did he lead Dortmund to two league titles in a row, but the Black and Yellow also saw a number of young players come through their academy as well as from other clubs during this time, to form a very strong, vibrant team.
BVB also completed a double in the 2011-12 season, winning the German Cup together with the league title for the first time in the club's history. However, Dortmund were unluckily beaten by Bayern Munich in the 2013 Champions League final, and also lost the league title to Bayern that season.
Their reputation as a successful but ultimately unlucky team continued under Edin Terzic, whose side came ever so close to winning the Bundesliga title in 2022/23. The following year Dortmund reached the Champions League final but ultimately ended runners-up to Real Madrid.

It's not always club football being played at Signal Iduna Park. The venue hosted six matches during the Euro 2024 finals, including the semi-final tie between England and the Netherlands.
Borussia Dortmund Famous Footballers
Michael Zorc is among the most notable players in Dortmund’s history. He is the longest-serving captain at the club, and he has also won the most trophies as captain, with two league titles, one German Cup, two German Supercups and one UEFA Champions League.
Zorc continued his association with the club after retiring, as the club’s Sporting Director. He also holds the club record for most Bundesliga appearances, with 463 matches.
In 2022, Sebastian Kehl succeeded Zorc as Borussia Dortmund Sporting Director. Four years later, Kehl was replaced by Ole Book.
