Canada vs Chile History
Chile was one of four competing nations at the inaugural South American Championship back in 1916. La Roja effectively made up the numbers at the tournament, failing to record a single victory at each of the first six editions they featured in.
After many years of trying to land a maiden South American title, with several runners-up finishes along the way, Chile finally celebrated Copa America glory in 2015. Eduardo Vargas scored four goals to steer his country to the final, in which La Roja defeated Argentina on penalties at Estadio Nacional in the Chilean capital Santiago.
The following year, at Copa America Centenario, Chile would defend its crown by once again overcoming Argentina in the final. For the second successive edition the title was decided from the penalty spot, as Lionel Messi failed to convert from 12 yards in front of an estimated 82,000 at the MetLife Stadium.
Canada, meanwhile, would only debut at the Copa America finals in 2024. Les Rouges overcame Trinidad and Tobago to seal a place at the showpiece event held in the United States.

These two teams had never met at a major tournament prior to sharing a group at Copa America 2024. They had crossed paths more than once in international friendlies, but never at the finals of a major event.
