Foreigner History

Foreigner were formed in 1976 by English star Mick Jones, and the group released their self-titled debut album a year later. It reached number four on the US Billboard charts and included a string of hit singles, including Feels Like the First Time, Cold as Ice and Long, Long Way from Home.

Double Vision (1978) - which saw Hot Blooded prove a success, and Head Games (1979) - which included the cult classic Dirty White Boy, helped to cement their position as one of the leading rock bands of the time, but the release of their fourth album, titled 4, went on to escalate Foreigner's influence.

That record went on to sell over six million copies in the United States alone and included their iconic hits Urgent, Waiting for a Girl Like You, Break It Up and Juke Box Hero.

I Want to Know What Love Is

In 1984 their best-selling single I Want to Know What Love Is was released and gave the band their first US number-one single. That song featured on their Agent Provocateur release, which proved another huge success. It received massive airplay and was universally hailed as an example of the group's stylistic songwriting.

Though Foreigner never managed to match the success they achieved in the 1980s, they continued to release astounding music. Inside Information (1987), Unusual Heat (1991) and Mr Moonlight (1994) followed and were all moderately successful.

It would take another 15 years for the group to release their next album, with Can't Slow Down coming out in 2009 and was a commercial and critical success. The album sales secured in their heyday were hard to match, and a number of lineup changes have occurred over the years.

Juke Box Heroes

Foreigner have sold over 80 million records over the years and won countless awards. As well as being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2024, Mick Jones and Lou Gramm were inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2013.

At their very best, the group has always been something of a mixture of Led Zeppelin and the Rolling Stones; as a group, they continue to be consummate professionals, and now is very much the right time to see the group play.
