About Detroit Pistons Tickets 2024/25

The Detroit Pistons have a rich history in the NBA (National Basketball Association) and were part of the founding season, having previously competed in the National Basketball League.

As the Fort Wayne Pistons, the team collected Western Conference Division Finals wins in 1954-55 and 1955-56 but lost in successive NBA Finals in this period, once to the Syracuse Nationals and once to the Philadelphia Warriors.

Back-to-Back NBA Title Winners

Under head coach Chuck Daly, the Pistons enjoyed a strong run of form in the late 1980s. Fronted by the likes of Dennis Rodman, Isiah Thomas, Bill Laimbeer and Joe Dumars, they made it through to three successive NBA Finals.

In 87-88, they were defeated by the Los Angeles Lakers in seven games, and that heartbreak certainly helped fuel desire in the camp.

In the following two seasons, they ruled the roost, first beating the Lakers in the 88-89 NBA Finals before thumping the Portland Trail Blazers in 89-90, famously beating Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls in the Eastern Conference finals.

Back On Top

Almost 15 years later, the Pistons were once again back to the fore, with Larry Brown's arrival as head coach leading to instant success with a third NBA title secured in 2003-04, with Chauncey Billups putting in an astonishing run of form during the playoffs.

Lean Spell

It would be fair to say that life as a Detroit Pistons fan isn't great of late. Since 2009-10 the team have experienced a playoff run on only two occasions, and in both of those, they were beaten in four games (By the Cavaliers and the Bucks).

Head coach Dwane Casey hasn't managed to steer things in the right direction of late, suffering woefully poor losing seasons in three of his four years in charge.

Central Division Rivals

The Pistons compete in the Central Division of the Eastern Conference, where they compete with the Milwaukee Bucks, the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Indiana Pacers, and the Chicago Bulls for the divisional title, an accolade the Pistons have secured on nine occasions, the last of which coming back in 2007-08.

Little Caesars Arena Guide
