Enrique Martin Morales was born in December 1971 in San Juan, Puerto Rico. A career on screen looked likely from an early age with Ricky Martin appearing in adverts from the age of nine.

However, his love of music came ahead of all other ambitions and at the age of 12, he joined the famed boy band Menudo. Among the artists that Martin credits as influences on his career are Elvis Presley, The Beatles and Puerto Rican legend Gilberto Santa Rosa.

In 1990 he was accepted at the Tisch School of the Arts in New York and he released a self-titled album in 1991, which was a moderate success but it was his third album that really saw interest in Ricky Martin start to rise. A Medio Vivir, sold three million copies worldwide when it was released in 1995.

The album included his first big-selling single with Maria being a top ten hit around the world.

In 1998 Vuelve was released and Ricky Martin's fourth studio album was his first big US hit, selling six million copies worldwide.

In 1999 another self-titled album secured Ricky Martin his first number-one US album, this time the album went on to sell an astounding 15 million copies. That album included his most well-known song, Livin Lla Vida Loca which sold well around the world and is among the best-selling singles of the decade.

The prolific artists then released Sound Loaded which featured the smash hit singles She Bangs and Nobody Want to be Lonely, featuring Christina Aguilera. This would prove to be the biggest period of his music career and took Ricky Martin to superstar status.

In 2015 his La Mordidita, featuring Yoteul, was another astonishing success and in the same year, he released his tenth studio album with A Quien Quiera Escuchar proving a critical success and a strong commercial success, albeit not in the same range as during his pomp.

Over the course of his solo career, Ricky Martin has sold over 70 million records and is now considered a well-researched actor having appeared in a number of highly acclaimed TV shows and movies. Ricky Martin is no more than a hero in just Spanish-speaking countries such as Mexico, he is loved and admired around the world and his songs have made an indelible mark on the pop music scene.
